This picture is from a publication called With the 17th in The Ardennes and is showing some of the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The man in the middle looking backwards is Mark Leverson, the S-3 (Operations) Sargeant. (He was killed in action while hanging in a tree on our Rhine jump). First on the right is Kurt Gabel, a scout and interrogator in Jake's section. He wrote the book The Making of a Paratrooper. Second on the right is Jake. Third with the bandolier, is Otto Hager (Jake usually used Otto as part of an Observation Post team.) The rest of the people shown are from his section or from the Communications Platoon. |
